Step into a self-guided school holidays eco adventure with HÄ«koi in the City â€” a fun, family‑friendly walk designed to connect you with te taiao (the environment) while exploring the city centre.

Start your walk by picking up your puka (booklet) from any of the three Central City Hub locations, earn your badge and go in the draw to win a prize! Along your journey, you’ll visit exciting learning stations and activities at Auckland Central LibraryEllen Melville Centre and Te Wharekura.

This is a self-guided walk and can be completed in one, or several days. Please check the opening hours for each location. All children must be supervised by an adult.

DIY Natural Skincare for Rangitahi

Thursday | 9 APR | 2 - 4PM | Suitable for ages 14 to 17 

Get ready to mix, blend, and glow—naturally. This hands‑on workshop teaches teens how to create their own lush, eco‑friendly skincare using simple, natural ingredients. They’ll learn easy ways to care for their skin without harsh chemicals or plastic waste, and head home with a collection of handmade products. Art Can Be Found Everywhere 

Saturday | 11 APR | 2 - 3.30PM | Suitable for ages 7 to 11

This workshop is a creative session for children led by art student volunteers - encouraging children to see art in everyday objects, promotes sustainability, and develops confidence in artistic expression through hands-on activities. Please email centralcitylibrarykids@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz to register for this event.

Worm Farm and Bokashi Workshop

Wednesday | 15 APR | 1.30 - 2.45PM | Suitable for ages 5 and above

Explore the amazing world of tiger worms and how they transform food scraps into plant‑boosting fertiliser. Bring a few small fruit or veg peelings (no citrus, onion, garlic, or chilli) to feed them. You’ll also discover bokashi composting, ideal for compact homes. All confirmed participants get a 50% discount on a Compost Collective system plus a free rat trap. Each child must be accompanied by at least one adult.

Make Your Own Seed Paper

Thursday | 16 APR | 2 - 4PM

Be an eco-warrior with a fun and eco-friendly craft! Turn recycled materials into seed paper that can be planted to grow flowers, herbs, or veggies.
