Start your morning with a meditative 90-minute sunrise concert, inspired by the traditions of Indian classical music and its connection to water, dawn and healing.
As the sun rises, you’ll hear a sequence of live performances shaped by the quiet, reflective mood of early morning ragas, melodies traditionally played at daybreak to evoke a sense of calm and clarity.
The programme features four musicians across four performances:
Rubab by Teja Singh
Sitar by Shalu Garg
Hindustani raga vocals by Daljeet Kaur
Tabla solo by Manjit Singh
About Ragas
For many outside of India, the experience of a sunrise raga is something rarely encountered. Traditionally performed between 3am and 9am, morning ragas such as Bhairav, Todi and Bilawal are designed to awaken the senses and bring a sense of clarity and calm.
In this concert, sitar, rubab, tabla and voice come together to echo that early morning atmosphere, offering a glimpse of India’s classical dawn, reimagined in the soft light of Aotearoa.
