Aotea Square transforms into a glowing night-time destination this winter with Winter Light Cathedral, a FREE walk-through light installation!
Opening on Saturday, 30 May, the installation features tens of thousands of sparkling LED lights arranged in soaring cathedral-inspired arches, inviting you to step inside a luminous tunnel of light, warmth and movement in the heart of the city centre.
Created by international lighting studio Mandylights, Winter Light Cathedral draws inspiration from traditional arched windows, creating an installation that shifts and sparkles as visitors move through it.
Subtle by day and radiant after dark, the installation is designed to encourage Aucklanders and visitors into the city during winter evenings. The installation will be illuminated day and night throughout the event period and is best viewed at night.
Visible from across Aotea Square, the installation creates a striking focal point within the square, while inside, visitors are surrounded by thousands of shimmering points of light in a more intimate environment.
